Imagine: you are currently listening to this greatest podcast ever. It hooks you from beginning to the end; makes you want to go on evening walks every day just to find some listening-time; and lets the thought of washing your dishes with headphones in your ears be more than exciting. And then… the show ends.

Do you know this situation? Because we do. Besides, isn’t it also slightly upsetting to just wait for a new episode for several weeks? If you find yourself in this situation, it’s time for you to find new stuff!

One of many great things about podcasts is that there are thousands, if not millions, to choose from! Which, we admit, can also make you get lost in the podcast jungle. So, how on earth do other people discover all these great new podcasts? And how can you be one of these people?

We can’t present you a silver bullet to success. But we can crack on some podcast discovery habits together and offer you some quick strategies. Because the next podcast that you’ll love is waiting for you, somewhere out there.

Browse through your podcast app

That’s the obvious choice. And, according to statistics, almost 50% of all the people who listen to podcasts start their discovery journey there. Type your favorite topic in the search bar and get started, or browse interesting categories. As if you were looking for a new series to watch on Netflix.

Compared to the results you get on any movie and series streaming platform, the results from your podcast app will be considerably large. And can make you feel as if you want to stop there and go back to binge-listening old episodes. But wait and read on, because you’ll miss something if you give up!

Explore player recommendations and podcast charts

If you don’t want to plunge too deep into this discovery journey, you can make the podcast app that you use to do the work for you. You usually get a “you might also like” list of podcasts based on your subscriptions and what you have listened to so far.

Besides, browsing podcast charts can give you a good impression of what shows other people like. What goes along with this strategy is a sense of knowing that these podcasts must be good to make it top of the list. Good and interesting enough for you personally? That’s another question.

Use your friends

The biggest benefit here: your friends know you and know what you like. Also, chances are high that they have similar interests and tastes as you have. So, ask for tips! They will tell you for sure if a podcast is worth listening to or not. Which is a way more reliable and honest review than any you find in your podcast app. That’s what friends are for.

What is more, just like you would share your favorite books or favorite TV shows and series, why not creating a podcast club where you can share your favorite podcast? This is a great way to spread your own recommendations and listen to other people’s cherished shows.

Exploit your social media network

Social media is a great way to connect to the rest of the world. Open Facebook and you’ll find countless podcast groups which are open to join. It just might take a little bit of time to find the right one(s) for you. But when you do, you can be sure about being surrounded by like-minded people who are themselves on the hunt for more great shows.

Keep your eyes and ears open

You never know when and where you can discover podcasts in your everyday life! Or have you thought that going to the bathroom could be one way? Yes, that’s a true story. A sticker on a toilet door in a restaurant hinted about a new podcast, and it turned out to be a great one!

Or, it could be the news portal you consume every day which talks about a podcast. And we discovered one of the greatest podcasts by overhearing two persons talking about it on a train. Even if we surely don’t advocate for eavesdropping on other people. It might be interesting from time to time, though.

Bonus: Download the OmniPod app

There is no better way to combine the above strategies than using the OmniPod app for new podcast discoveries. The OmniPod platform allows you to search categories and find new shows. At the same time, you can connect to your friends as well as the rest of the podcast community. And all of that in the same app. Our recommendation to you: Don’t waste any more time browsing through the confusing podcast jungle and try it!
